Work continues on stripping the Alfa's body. Right now I'm using a 3M abrasive disc in my Dynabrade angle grinder. They work pretty well on paint but bondo, of which there is plenty on this car, tears through them pretty well. You can see the progress I've made on the right front fender, which I'm hoping I won't have to replace. There is some rust on the lower section where it meets the rocker but I should be able to weld in a new piece of metal there. The left fender is not in such shape though and will probably need to be replaced, along with the nose. The biggest problem with removing paint this way is that it makes a huge mess in the garage. Nearly every square inch of my workshop is now covered in a fine layer of green and bondo colored dust. My goal is to strip as much of the outside as possible so that I can get a good feel for where the rust and collision damage is. Then I expect to have the entire shell grit blasted and primered. Chela and I removed the rear end so the shell is very close to being completely stripped. Only a few small trim and interior pieces are left to remove.
Ciao!
